01. Introduction

Supervision is protected time to consider your professional role and practice.

It can help you

Slow down, examine a difficult situation, notice patterns, rehearse a conversation and make a decision you can explain.

It is not

Line management, performance assessment, counselling or a replacement for formal safeguarding and emergency procedures.

02. Before a session

Arrive with a clear area to explore.

You do not need to record sensitive case details. A few broad prompts can help you decide where to begin.

What has taken most of my attention since the last session?

Where do I feel least clear or most stuck?

What decision, relationship or boundary would benefit from thinking time?

What would make this session useful today?

03. Working agreement

Discuss boundaries at the start of the relationship.

Use these questions when establishing or reviewing a supervision relationship.

What is supervision for in this setting, and what is it not for?

How will we protect time, privacy and psychological safety?

What happens if a safeguarding or immediate safety concern arises?

How will we review whether this arrangement is helping?

04. Between sessions

Record only your own next steps.
